Sephora: Sorry for Offensive Celebutard Lipstick

The dubious hits keep coming. Sephora faced an online maelstrom from customers and activists who were offended by a shade of lipstick dubbed ‘Celebutard’ that was being sold in stores as a part of Kat Von D’s makeup line. The product is reminiscent of recent product debacles such as Urban Outfitter’s “Obama black” T-shirt and JC Penney’s “I’m too pretty to do homework” girls 7-16 clothing line.

Following multiple Change.org petitions and angry Facebook posts about mocking the disabled, Sephora pulled the lipstick and apologized. “It has come to our attention that the name of one shade of lipstick we carry has caused offense to some of our clients and others. We are deeply sorry for that.”
