On Monday, August 6, 2018,  a twitter handle, APC Newspaper, which claims to be a social media mouthpiece for the ruling party, All Progressive Congress announced that President Muhammdu Buhari has raised NYSC allowance to N49,800. This writer, however, tweeted at NYSC to confirm the credibility of the APC Newspaper's tweet about the allowance increase and @officialnysc replied saying it is a rumour. Shortly after responding to the tweet that asked the agency to clear the air on the rumour @officialnysc immediately deleted the tweet.

TIME April 18, 1932 12:00 AM GMT-5 Onetime home port for Scarface Al Capone’s mob, Cicero, Ill. has become a U. S. household synonym for murder and vice. There fell Assistant State’s Attorney William McSwiggin under gangland bullets. Frank Capone, Al’s brother, died violently there. Musicomedienne Rosetta Duncan had her nose smashed there. Last week Cicero turned over a new political leaf. In the election for village president, State Senator Richey Graham, son-in-law of Mayor Anton Joseph Cermak of Chicago, saw an opportunity to break the Republicans’ 16-year grip on Cicero.
Shi Yan Ming didn’t intend to make me feel bad. But when a 40-something journalist asks a 59-year-old interviewee to confirm his age, it’s not really appropriate to lift a straight-kneed leg over your head in response. Frankly, it’s a little upsetting. Not that Shi’s age-defying dexterity should be surprising. He is a living legend in the world of martial arts, a 34th generation warrior monk from China’s legendary Shaolin temple who can break bricks with his bare hands, execute upside down flying kicks, and bend razor-sharp spears with his neck.
In 1937, Walt Disney was desperate to find a way to make “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,”the first feature-length animated movie ever made, actually feel like a feature-length movie. He’d been doing his best to ignore the naysayers who christened the very idea of the film as “Disney’s folly.” But they did trigger a nagging concern for the 35-year-old studio chief: Audiences might reject an animated movie if it remained stuck in the realm of the flat, two-dimensional shorts that had propelled Mickey Mouse to worldwide celebrity.
Tuesday the internet erupted in a wave of Sochi shock that had nothing to do with dangerous half pipes, packs of wild dogs, or atrocious hotel accommodations. Can you believe that Olympic athletes are all using Tinder—a DATING APP—at the Olympic village? So much so that “Tinder hook-ups [are] off the hook”? This is completely unexpected. Why would the world’s best athletes, in their physical prime, with endorphins to kill and calories to burn, and who are all compressed in a small living space be so interested in this particular extracurricular activity?
This year brings an unavoidable wave of Beatles tributes, with TV specials, media coverage, a new CD boxed set, and celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the band’s arrival in America. But amid yet another look back at the start of American Beatlemania, we’re neglecting (as we often do) an integral part of the group’s appeal and a major reason for their initial popularity: their humor. The Beatles’ sense of humor was on display at their very first press conference on American soil, at John F.
Some people argue that colonialism and the fetishisation of the black woman's body are to be blamed for the popularity of BBL citing the South African, Saartjie (Sarah) Baartman. In 1810, a South African woman with immensely protruding buttocks was displayed as a ‘circus freak’ in the London Piccadilly circus. Her autobiographer said many desired to have the kind of big bum Sartjiee had naturally. ADVERTISEMENT
Detroit was one of the most violent major cities in America in 2021, even though the city’s homicides dropped 4% from 2020. “We are not in any way celebrating these numbers,” Detroit Police Chief James White said earlier this year. “These reductions illustrate the value of our efforts together as a collaboration during an unprecedented time in history.” Nearly 300 miles west of Detroit, Milwaukee had a record year of killings in 2021, continuing the upward trend that started for them in 2020.
