One of the most amusing spectacles this election season has been watching highly paid TV hosts embrace their inner Woody Guthrie and rediscover the workin’ man. What do blue-collar Americans want? Can they save Hillary? Is Obama out of touch with them? The irony is that TV networks have been out of touch with the working class for years. Blue-collar TV characters used to be routine: Ralph Kramden, Fred Sanford, Laverne and Shirley.
When word got out that the Danish government was helping to fund Jens Jørgen Thorsen’s blasphemous new film The Love Affairs of Jesus Christ, the Young Christians mobilized a protest march of 5,000 people through the streets of Copenhagen. In Amsterdam, a summertime citadel for hippies, many of Holland’s 10,000 Jesus People joined a throng of young evangelists from overseas in distributing roses and Gospels as they marched to a park service.

Lame humor and underdeveloped drama plague this trite tale starring Fanny Ardant as a woman having an affair with a man two decades years her junior. Sixty-four-year-old Fanny Ardant has an affair with 41-year-old Laurent Lafitte in “Bright Days Ahead,” and that’s pretty much all there is to Marion Vernoux‘s trite MILF tale.
