In New Jersey: Bread That Casts a Spell

It is, of course, possible that Giordano’s Bakery, an 8-ft. by 10-ft. shop in a depopulated section of Newark, does not make the best Italian bread in the world. Possibly it is only the best in the New World. Possibly — and I say this to appease those of you in places like Cincinnati or Phoenix — possibly it is merely the best in New Jersey. But this isn’t a position you would want to argue on Seventh Avenue, where the people hurrying between the shop and their double-parked cars tend to be staunch Giordano’s loyalists.
Speaking with Billboard, the singer revealed that she gained admission into University at age 14, adding that she and her brothers then attended the same school. "Me and my two brothers were in the same school and our father did not allow us to stay in the dorms so we had to stay home. It was like secondary school," she began. "You leave home then go to school, then our dad would pick us up on some days.
Profession: Magician
Biography: Considered the father of modern magic. Robert-Houdin is the first magician to perform in a theatre in formal clothes, a format followed by many of his successors. His best-known tricks included making an orange tree grow before an audience's eyes and an alternating light and heavy chest.
In 1856 he was even sent by Napoleon III on a mission to Algeria to quell Algerian Marabouts, who with their supposed magic were inspiring revolutionary actions against the French.
Streamer Disney+ has revealed a power packed British cast who will join the previously announced David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Aidan Turner and Danny Dyer on the series adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s steamy novel “Rivals.”

King Charles III officially returned to public duties on Tuesday, following a months-long period of recuperation since being diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in February.
The 75-year-old monarch opted for a cause close to home to mark his return to work. King Charles and Queen Camilla visited a cancer treatment center in London, where he greeted doctors, held hands with patients, and gave out gifts to children. They were also joined by Baroness Neuberger, chairman of University London College Hospitals, and David Probert, its chief executive.

LUMBER: Needed: Paul & Babe
2024-08-13
What the U.S. needed was a superman like Paul Bunyan. Paul did a lot of sizable things. He dug out Lake Michigan to mix concrete in so that he could build the Rocky Mountains. In the winter of the Blue Snow, when the Pacific Ocean was frozen clean over, he supplied the country with the standard grade of white snow hauled from China by Babe, his blue ox. But Paul was a lumberman at heart.
It's launching mobile order-and-pay technology and curbside delivery in the fourth quarter of the year at all 14,000 of its US restaurants. That means that by the end of the year McDonald's customers will be able to order and pay for their food on their smartphones. The company announced the change at an investor meeting on Wednesday. If customers choose curbside pickup, they can skip the drive-thru line and a McDonald's employee will bring their food to their car.

In the summer of 1967, a year after his near-fatal motorcycle accident, Bob Dylan got together with his favorite musical collaborators, The Band, near Woodstock, N.Y. Settling into a house called Big Pink, they hunkered down in the basement in front of a home recorder. Over several months, they played and sang in long informal sessions.
The tapes were not released, but over the years various tracks kept popping up in bootleg editions.
