Newt Gingrich, responding to a warning from the House ethics committee, said he would pay for his imminent 25-day promotional book tour himself rather than risk violating House travel restrictions. The House Speaker’s attorney, Jan Baran, pledged the tour would “satisfy not only the letter, but the spirit” of House rules and welcomed “any guidance whatsoever from the committee.” A constructive attitude may help: the committee will soon decide whether to hire an outside counsel to investigate five formal ethics complaints filed against Gingrich.
Among the track-and-field events on the Olympic program, the heptathlon hasn’t generated much, if any, buzz in the United States in recent years. The legendary Jackie Joyner-Kersee was the last American to win gold in the multidisciplinary sport, in which women compete in 100-m hurdles, high jump, shot put, the 200 m, long jump, javelin, and the 800 m—in that order—over a two-day period; she won consecutive Olympic titles in 1988 and 1992 and took silver at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

I am really just not happy. My fiancé called me and said I am Lazy. I work 8am till 6pm every day; I also go for my academic classes over the weekends. Just because I sleep a lot when I have the opportunity, he called me lazy. I am really sad because I thought I have found my all in him. What should I do?________________ ADVERTISEMENT
Dear reader, That your boyfriend has made you angry does not disqualify him from the position of your first listening ears when you need to settle that issue.
One thing you would not expect Comedy Central to lack for is comedy. It has the satire of Stewart and Colbert, the sketches of Key and Peele and Kroll Show and Inside Amy Schumer (returning next month, even sharper than last year), the animated institution South Park, the stunt-com Nathan for You, and, well, whatever Tosh.0 is.
It hasn’t always been as big on comedies, though–at least, not in the typical TV sense of live-action, scripted series whose episodes tell sustained stories.
Few books graced summer reading lists as much as Jean Kwok’s bestselling novel, in which a search for a missing older sister leads to broader revelations about family, language and belonging. In its plot, the book in some ways echoes Kwok’s own experience: in 2009, decades after she emigrated from Hong Kong to the U.S., her older brother went missing while flying a plane. He was later found dead, a tragedy that fractured her family’s understanding of itself.
