Biography: Greg Chappell is regarded as one of the most stylish batsmen of 1970s and 1980s cricket, and Australian captain for 48 Tests 1975-83.
In 87 Test matches Chappell scored 7,110 runs with a batting average of 53.86 including 24 centuries and 31 fifties, and a top score of 247 not out. An outstanding slips fielder, he took 122 Test catches.
Chappell was also a handy medium pace bower taking 47 Test wickets and 72 in 74 One Day Internationals.
As captain of the Australian ODI team Chappell became an infamous 'villain' in 1981 when he instructed his brother Trevor to bowl the last ball of the New Zealand-Australia match underarm, preventing the Kiwis any chance of winning.
Following his retirement from the playing field Chappell became a National selector 1984–88, 2010-11 as well as a coach with South Australia, India and Pakistan.
